The Early Days of Pottery: Before the Potter’s Wheel

Did you know that pottery was originally created by hand? This means people used their fingers and simple tools to shape clay into pots, bowls, and dishes. This all started a very long time ago, before the potter’s wheel was invented around 3500 BCE.

The potter’s wheel made it a lot easier for artists and craftsmen to create perfectly shaped pottery. They could spin the wheel to make their work smoother and more even, which is really important for things like bowls that need to hold liquid. Before the wheel, it took a lot of practice and skill to make beautiful pottery pieces by just using hands!

Pottery is so interesting because it not only helps us learn about the way people lived in the past but also shows how creative they were. So, while we enjoy making and using pottery today, it’s fascinating to think back to when it was all done by hand!
