When we make pottery, like clay cups or bowls, we have to fire them to make them strong and shiny. This process happens in two main stages: bisque firing and glaze firing.
During the bisque firing, we bake the pottery in a special oven called a kiln at a very high temperature. This step makes the clay hard, so it doesn’t break easily. It also prepares the pottery so it can hold glaze later on.
After the bisque firing, it’s time for the glaze firing. In this stage, we cover our now-hard pottery with a colorful liquid called glaze. When we fire the pottery again in the kiln, the heat makes the glaze melt and stick to the surface, giving it a smooth finish and beautiful colors.
So, firing pottery is essential! Bisque firing makes the clay strong, and glaze firing makes it look amazing. Remember, pottery needs both steps to be sturdy and pretty!
