Cone 6 = 2232°F (1222°C)

Hey there! Let’s talk about Cone 6 in pottery. When potters make things like bowls or vases, they often put them in something called a kiln to make them strong and beautiful.

Now, each cone number tells us how hot the kiln needs to be. So, Cone 6 is like a badge that shows the kiln must reach a super hot temperature of 2232°F or 1222°C. This high temperature helps the clay and glaze (the shiny stuff that goes on pottery) to change and become really cool!

Imagine a cake baking in the oven. If it doesn’t get hot enough, it won’t rise and be tasty. Similarly, if the kiln doesn’t get to Cone 6’s temperature, the pottery won’t be right.

So, here are 7 objects that would be made if they were fired in a kiln at Cone 6:

  1. A ceramic mug for hot chocolate
  2. A decorative vase for flowers
  3. A pizza plate for family dinners
  4. A cookie jar to keep treats safe
  5. A flower pot for growing plants
  6. A bowl for cereal in the morning
  7. A teapot for serving tea to friends

Each of these objects is made using special clay and glaze that need the Cone 6 heat to become strong and beautiful. Isn’t that amazing?
