Slab Building in Pottery: A Fun Way to Create!

In pottery, there are different ways to make amazing clay items, and one of those ways is called slab building. This is a technique that uses flat pieces of clay to build shapes and structures, kind of like building with blocks!

When you use slab building, first you roll out flat pieces of clay, which are called slabs. It’s important to make them even and smooth, so they stick together well. You can join the slabs by using a mixture of clay and water called slip, which acts like glue.

With this method, you can create all kinds of cool things, like vases, pots, or even sculptures. It lets you be creative because you can decide the shapes and sizes of your pieces. Plus, you can decorate them before they are fired in the kiln, which is a special oven that makes the clay hard.

So, whenever you start a new pottery project, remember that slab building is a great way to build and express your artistic side!
